I’M REFERRING TO YOUR HAIR AND MAKEUP
You’re probably wondering what to do if you don’t keep a makeup artist or hairstylist with you during the reception. Well, we were working with a bride who is extremely down to earth and easy-going, and she hire us to do her makeup and hair for herself and the bridal party without touchups. She got this gorgeous raspberry lip color for her lips and after looking at it in the mirror, she asked if I suggest that she drink out of a straw during her wedding reception. I think these little questions are ones we may not think about during the wedding planning, but certainly pop up on the day of. So with this said, here are some tips and guidelines for you to read to ensure that your makeup and hair stay fresh all night!
YES, SIP ON A STRAW WHENEVER POSSIBLE!
This will help reduce the amount lip color being removed from your lips and keep the gorgeous shade on your lips.
OIL BLOTTING SHEETS ARE A MUST
Let’s face it: you’re going to be active, sweaty, and a little bit oily. To avoid looking oily, blot your face gently with oil blotting sheets. Usually, your t-zone area is the most oil; that includes the forehead, nose, and chin.
CHEWING GUM – YEAH, THAT’S RIGHT
I know this technically isn’t for preserving makeup and hair, but I had to share it! Be careful with this one; you don’t want gum stuck on your dress or your hair when the gum goes rogue. Otherwise, gum is great for helping you get some food residue out (and making your breath minty fresh!).
IT’S SIMPLE: ASK TO LEAVE SOME PRODUCT BEHIND
This one is straight-forward, but I highly encourage asking the makeup artist if s/he can leave some of the product behind for you to use for touchups later on. If s/he says no, that’s okay! At least you asked.
MINI HAIRSPRAY ON STANDBY
Whether it’s the heat or dancing the night away, your hair might not hold out. To give your hair some support and love, add a little bit of hairspray to your hairdo. It’ll probably be annoying to carry a normal-sized can of hairspray, so pack a mini or have one close by!
WORK THE PINS
Bobby pins are your hair’s best friend. Whether you have an up-do or loose waves, bobby pins will help your hair stay in it’s place. Feeling your hairdo coming loose? Add a few of these babies in and boom, you’re all set!
WHEN IN DOUBT, HAVE AN EMERGENCY KIT
I can’t highlight this enough when I work with brides, but have an emergency kit ready! It’ll be so handy for you to have, and if you properly preparing your kit, you’ll be ready to tackle any situation. Don’t know what to include in your emergency kit? Read: DIY Wedding Day Emergency Kit
You’ll thank me later!
