BEFORE YOU GO, YOU SHOULD KNOW…
As you know, I recently visited Bare & Pure Laser Hair Removal in Manhattan for a treatment on my under arms, lip and bikini. It was my second time getting laser hair removal, and I fell completely in love with the experience. The experience was relatively painless, and the hair stayed away for much longer than it would have if I had gotten a regular wax.
On my way to the appointment I realized I wasn’t sure how I should’ve prepped to maximize my results. With this said, I spoke to Ana about tips I should have known before receiving laser hair removal that I may not have thought of. Before going for your first laser hair treatment, or your 2nd, 3rd… etc., these are the 5 steps to ensure that you have the best experience possible!
1) LET IT GROW
This is a big one! Depending on how quickly your hair grows, you should stop all plucking, waxing and tweezing 2-4 weeks before your scheduled laser hair removal appointment. You can shave up to 2 days before your appointment. Laser hair removal will not be effective, and can even damage your skin if you use any other methods of hair removal after the recommended stop period.
2) POP SOME PILLS
Jk… kinda! The ladies at Bare & Pure advised me to take 2 Advil 30 minutes before my first treatment, since some people experience mild discomfort during the laser treatment. I took their advice and experienced absolutely no pain, so it was definitely good advice! They also recommend abstaining from any physical activity 24 hours after treament…. Done!
3) CHECK YO’ MEDS
Before your treatment, make sure you check all current medications that you are taking… the following cause photosensitivity: Accutane, Tetracycline and Retin-A. You must discontinue use of Accutane 3 months before your treatment, and the other two a whopping 6 months before. They don’t mess around! I have a friend who was on Accutane and didn’t realize that she had to stop use before laser hair removal, and the results were NO BUENO.
4) YOU CAN DO IT EV’RYWHERE!
Laser hair removal can be done on all parts on the body… EXCEPT the area under the eyebrow. Save that for waxing, plucking or threading!
5) YOU’VE GOTTA GO BACK TO GET IT ALL
There are 3 phases of hair growth… Anagen, Catagen and Telogen. Laser hair removal is only effective in the Anagen phase. Since all of your hair in any given area will not be in the same phase at the same time, a series of treatments is recommended for the maximum hair removal!
